The Bengal is one of the most charming and beautiful cats. For many people, they are seen as "wild cats", but they are at home. I have fostered many cats, but the Bengal cat has different personality traits than the average housecat. They are highly intelligent and very demanding when they do not get what they want. They are also very vocal and can imitate what you do. They are very sweet and playful. Bengals are not intended for any cat owner, so research thoroughly before attempting to establish.
What is a Bengal? Bengal cats are descended from Japan. The wild Asian Leopard cat was crossed with a cat to the Bengals. This happened sometime in the 1940s. It was not until the 1970s that the Bengal cat appeared in North America. Most Bengals have a very athletic, muscular form. They have the appearance of a wild cat, with different markings then you've probably seen on other cats. Their coats are either leopard print or marbled. Most have the "mascara look" around the eyes. I have encouraged the Bengals seemed leopards. Some cat clubs refuse to accept the Bengals as a race. The cat lovers Society does not accept "hybrids", as the Bengals.
They are absolutely beautiful animals, but they should only be in homes where they receive considerable attention. This is important and something that many people overlook. There are many Bengals in shelters because they were approved by the people and then they changed their minds. So please, think twice before considering adoption. I may sound like a broken record, but it is something I highly valued.
A Bengal cat temperament will vary in its development. Bengal cats are classified at the level of their child (or offspring) generation. An F1 Bengal, the first offspring of the crossing and would therefore not as tame as an F4 (fourth generation). It is important to research your Bengal cat development. Many people do not take this into account when establishing a Bengal and are unprepared.
Right. Back to the Bengals and their unique personalities. As said earlier the Bengals are vocal. I should clarify. A vocal Siamese, Bengal, a rise of the roof as it wants. They love to talk and will speak to you quite easily. They also love water. Most cats avoid water at all, but the Bengals enjoy playing at. They love to play hide and seek and are very playful in their games. Obviously, they are not your typical cat. She wanted to watch, however. They should not be taken just because you want a "wildcat". They are energetic, sociable, outgoing cats who love human companionship.
